So the news came earlier this week that George Michael had passed away, capping off a year that really sucked for some, but which also ended on, for better or worse, a real note of change after the Presidential election.
Every year has had its famous passings-2016 included David Bowie and Prince, along with Michael and others, the message perhaps being that while none of us lives forever, pop and rock icons do, in a sense. (And there are others, like Carrie Fisher, who may or may not be facing their own mortality.) UPDATE: RIP to Ms. Fisher, as well- and her mother, Debbie Reynolds.
But ultimately the end of the year is about looking forward to the next one, and we can see perhaps with some trepidation what the first one hundred days of The Orange One will bring. On the positive side for many aging icons of our youth, medicine continues to advance by leaps and bounds, and those in the twilight (or even mid-twilight) of their lives and careers may live long enough to take advantage of it.
The new year rings in the future while remembering the past.
